Back In Korea
Found a new job in Busan, conveniently located a few minutes away from this hot Korean man I have been seeing here and there. I am the only foreign teacher out of maybe 15 others so there isnt much English speaking. I am working at a kingergarten so most of the kids dont know English either. I moved into my new apartment...kind of. I was disgusted upon entering due to the horrible smell and dirtyness. Its getting better now after a few days down on my knees scrubbing. Last night was kitchen time and I opened up a shoe box I found under the sink. To my surprise, I found a bunch of cockroaches! The neighbors had to have heard me scream and I felt embarrassed. Some of them came out when I dropped the box...whoops. I thought they had a whole bunch of babies in there too. I called my boyfriend who was still at work, somehow expecting him to come and get them out! I know he hates cockroaches too. The other night I was resting my hand on his chest and he freaked out and hit my hand off him. The next morning I asked him why he hit me. He said he had a dream that cockroaches were on his body!
I called my boss, who then called my landlord who saved the day in a few minutes time. He came into the room looking very mighty and carrying a syringe filled with cocker killer. I whimpered the nasty things were in the corner, and when he found one he smashed it with his hand! Right in front of me! I felt more even more sick. Another one scurried across the floor. Smash! He told me no more, obsoyo. I said no, there are more I think! No, no, no. Then I pointed to the box where the others were in the hallway. He began to open it, but I shouted at him not to. He did, he wasnt afraid like me. Maybe he was trying to show how macho he was, maybe he really wasnt afraid. I tell you, he picked up the cockroach and threw it down on the ground. Thats how he finished the job. I cried. He didnt even laugh at me. I think he understood. I said thank you, thank you, thank you and he was off.
But he came back. He heard my scream...again. I found another. I killed it myself this time. I cannot kill a mosquito...most of the time. But this bugger was not going to have babies in my pad. I brushed him up with a broom into a trash can and drowned him with bleach. Am I a bad person? I had to do it. I didnt want him going into another persons house to cause another horrible experience. I flushed him down the toilet. My mother always said that our fish were going to the ocean, so I didnt feel so bad. But cockroaches dont swim. Oh well.
